In the spring of 1999, we hiked up the mountain to put a new flag on the memorial that had been there for years, placed by locals. We discovered that someone had stolen the plaque off it!! One month later, MAHS returned and dedicated this new memorial at the peak, near where the electronic equipment was gathered and burned the day of the crash. |

In June of 2011, I visited the site with Barbara Winkler (Center) and her husband. Barbara is the daughter of Radar Intercept Officer 1Lt Ed Masaiitis Jr. The gentleman on the right is Chuck McClead, who was also a RIO with the 75th FIS during this era and often flew with pilot Vern Johnson. Chuck survived an F-101B crash in Macwahoc in 1962. |
